HOUSTON — When Meg Owen posts product review on Instagram or her blog, fans know she did weeks of trial and error. She lives in League City with her family, but online, followers know her as Meg O. Owen is a theater teacher-turned-lifestyle blogger who doesn’t mind baring a freshly scrubbed face to demonstrate how to use a product and if it’s worth your money. “Between the brands and on social media, it can be very overwhelming for women,” she said. “We’re always inundated with product and we feel like we need 20 million things. I don’t think that is necessarily true with skincare and beauty.” That’s why Owen came up with a list she calls “Drugstore Skincare Gems.” These are products that she not only uses but recommends to her fans. Celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown reportedly uses the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, too. Khloe Kardashian has posted about the PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash on her Instagram account. Kerry Washington told Allure magazine that she loves the ingredients in the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel moisturizer.  2 Layers Pvc Roofing Tiles “It’s great especially for us women who live in Houston where it’s humid,” Owen said. “We don’t like a heavy moisturiz...

One ‘lucky dog’ (and one lucky vet school) to be featured in the Super Bowl

A very grateful pet owner has created a Super Bowl ad to thank—in a huge way—the veterinary school that saved his dog’s life. When David MacNeil learned last summer that his golden retriever Scout had an aggressive blood vessel cancer and wasn’t likely to live out the month, MacNeil was devastated. On the advice of Scout’s primary care veterinarian, MacNeil took his dog to the University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW) School of Veterinary Medicine, where Scout’s hemangiosarcoma was treated aggressively with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy, according to an article on the university’s website. Within a month, the size of Scout’s tumor had decreased by nearly 80%, and today it is “all but disappeared,” according to the article. Having already lost three other dogs to cancer, MacNeil is understandably ecstatic about his dog’s current health and extremely grateful to the medical team that saved his life. But MacNeil isn’t just any pet owner. He is CEO of Illinois-based WeatherTech, a very successful manufacturer of automotive accessories and home and pet care products, and he wanted to show his appreciation in a very, very big way. MacNeil purchased a $6 million Super Bo...

Aussie indie pop artist Japanese Wallpaper, soulful songstress Nicole Millar and Sistas in Song (featuring local Monica Moore and fellow vocalist Belle Whyte) will headline an Australia Day concert with a different tone in Canberra this Sunday. It has been a tough start to the year for many Canberrans, so this year, Australia Day might just be the perfect time to gather together and remind ourselves of everything that is great about being Australian – including our courage and resilience, under both hail and fire. Australian indie pop singer, songwriter and producer Japanese Wallpaper headlines the Australia Day concert in Canberra. Given the current environment, the ACT Government decided to cancel the traditional fireworks display, and instead has dedicated the popular local concert to raising funds for bushfire relief. Performing ‘pop music with bite’, Canadian-Australian artist Nicole Millar joins the line-up for the Australia Day concert in Canberra. Acting Minister for the Arts, Creative Industries and Cultural Events Rachel Stephen-Smith said people who have be...

CMOS integration of inkjet-printed graphene for humidity sensing

Thank you for visiting nature.com. You are using a browser version with limited support for CSS. To obtain the best experience, we recommend you use a more up to date browser (or turn off compatibility mode in Internet Explorer). In the meantime, to ensure continued support, we are displaying the site without styles and JavaScript. We report on the integration of inkjet-printed graphene with a CMOS micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) microhotplate for humidity sensing. The graphene ink is produced via ultrasonic assisted liquid phase exfoliation in isopropyl alcohol (IPA) using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) polymer as the stabilizer. We formulate inks with different graphene concentrations, which are then deposited through inkjet printing over predefined interdigitated gold electrodes on a CMOS microhotplate. The graphene flakes form a percolating network to render the resultant graphene-PVP thin film conductive, which varies in presence of humidity due to swelling of the hygroscopic PVP host. When the sensors are exposed to relative humidity ranging from 10–80%, we observe significant changes in resistance with increasing sensitivity from the amount of graphene in the inks. Ou...

Ex-convict Jailed On $200,000 Bail On Child Neglect Charges

(Stillwater, Okla.) — An ex-convict accused of failing to protect two children from exposure to drugs in a Stillwater home has been jailed on $200,000 bail pending a Feb. 3 court appearance at which he can seek a preliminary hearing on his felony charges. Marty Lee Woodruff, 32, who listed a relative’s post office box in Glencoe as his address, also was accused of attempting to flush a package of methamphetamine down a toilet while Stillwater officers were outside and possessing the drug, both of which are misdemeanors. Due to his criminal record, Woodruff could be given as much as two life prison terms if convicted of two counts of child neglect. Woodruff could be given a two-year jail term if convicted of his misdemeanor counts regarding methamphetamine. Woodruff was arrested at a house in the 1100 block of S. West in Stillwater at 5:58 p.m. on New Year’s Eve about 10 minutes after a search warrant was served there by forced entry “due to the occupants refusing to answer the door,” a police affidavit alleged. “Marty Woodruff was located exiting the western half of the residence,” Stillwater Police Officer Brett Moore alleged in his affidavit. “Detective Carson and Officer Whi...

The Phanteks AMP Series 650W offers strong performance, excellent build quality and silent operation. All the above are provided at a fair price, so this product follows keeps up with its direct competitors in this wattage category, namely the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold with similar capacity (GX-650) that uses the same platform and the Corsair RM650x. The Phanteks Amps line consists of three models with their capacities ranging from 550W to 750W. All are fully modular and are certified by both 80 PLUS and Cybenetics, so besides the 80 PLUS Gold badge, the PH-P650G also has the ETA-A and LAMBDA-A+ efficiency and noise badges, respectively. All Phanteks AMP models use the new Focus Plus Gold platform, which is also used in the fresh Seasonic GX models. This platform is reliable and offers good performance, so we have high expectations from today’s review unit, the PH-P650G. Despite the super-compact dimensions, the have PH-P650G is equipped with two EPS and four PCIe connectors, so it will easily keep up with a potent system, as long as you don’t try to power a pair of previous AMD GPUs with it (e.g., VEGA 56/64). If you don’t need a second GPU, the PH-P650G is abl...

The Best Ride On Toys For Kids You Can Buy on Amzon

Once those mobile skills kick in, little ones want to go, go, go in any way they can — and you’d be surprised how fast tiny legs can scurry from one room to the next. You could always teach your child how to ride a bike to expel some of that energy, but that requires time, effort and loads of practice. But here’s some good news: there’s an alternative to bike riding when mom’s energy levels start to wane, and that’s ride on toys.  Whoever came up with ride on toys deserves a medal, or at the very least more recognition than they’ve been given up until this point because ride on toys are to toddlers as amusement park rides are to adults. They’re a taste of thrill and adventure, even if they’re only set up in your playroom. With ride on toys, kids can hop a smiling Thomas the Tank Engine train, hold down the farm on a tractor trailer or hit the open road (er, sidewalk) in a convertible RV. They’re toys, but they’re also fuel for their imaginations with the added bonus of keeping your child occupied for awhile.  Our mission at SheKnows is to empower and inspire women, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by c...

Hot forming complex, high-strength aluminum parts The FABRICATOR STAMPING Journal The Welder The Tube and Pipe Journal The FABRICATOR en Español The Additive Report The FABRICATOR The Welder The Tube and Pipe Journal STAMPING Journal The Additive Report The FABRICATOR en Español

The first of its kind in the world, AP&T’s scalable production line for hot forming of high-strength aluminum offers new methods for manufacturing lightweight car body components. To meet increasingly strict government requirements regarding CO2 emissions, the automotive industry has been working for many years to reduce fuel consumption of newly manufactured vehicles by reducing their weight. New materials, designs, and manufacturing methods have made possible lighter parts and components. Press hardening of sheet steel has been vital to the progress made so far. As this technology continues to improve, other materials and material combinations have been developed, such as high-strength aluminum. While considerably lighter than steel, this material has entailed high costs and presented some forming challenges. In 2013 AP&T began to investigate the development of a new process for hot forming of complexly designed parts made of high-strength aluminum. During the following three-year period, the company worked with customers, universities, and suppliers on testing the material, production processes, and equipment. The result in 2016 was an initial prototype line and a num...

Economical to produce, relatively easy to install and widely available, asphalt shingles are today’s most popular

Economical to produce, relatively easy to install and widely available, asphalt shingles are today’s most popular roofing material—not only because they’re less costly than wood, wood shakes, tile, metal or slate, but also because their guaranteed life span pits them favorably against competitors. At least a dozen major U.S. and Canadian building-product manufacturers market asphalt shingles, including GAF, CertainTeed and Owens Corning. Fiberglass shingles are made of a woven fiberglass base mat, covered with a waterproof asphalt coating, and topped with ceramic granules that shield the product from harmful UV rays. Because of the composition of the fiberglass mat, less asphalt is needed to give the shingles their durability and strength. The result is a lighter weight and thinner roofing material. Fiberglass shingles also have a higher fire rating than organic varieties and generally carry a longer warranty. Fiberglass shingles were developed in the 1980s, but have quickly become the roofing material of choice for most homeowners and contractors today. The traditional organic mat-based shingles are made from a recycled layer of felt paper, asphalt-saturated for waterproofing, ...

Best no-pull dog harness in 2020: Blue-9, Ruffwear, PetSafe & More

Insider Inc. receives a commission from our affiliate partners when you buy through our links, but our reporting and recommendations are always independent and objective. Learn more. While there are plenty of science-based techniques to teach a dog to walk on a loose leash, sometimes the best solution to a dog that pulls is a no-pull harness that will do the bulk of the work for you. Most dog harnesses connect to the leash at the spine. But because “back-clip” harnesses put your control at the strongest part of your dog’s body and tap into an opposition reflex that makes your dog pull, it’s not what you want for a dog that is still learning to walk on a leash. Walking a dog that pulls on a collar isn’t helpful either. “As a general rule, I don’t like anything that puts too much pressure on the neck, says veterinary behaviorist Dr. Carlo Siracusa, director of animal behavior services at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. “Definitely no prong or shock collars. Even a martingale-type collar, which I do like, will not prevent the dog from pulling [and] will apply pressure on the neck.”  Dogs tha...
