Tata has had hatchbacks in its product portfolio from the very beginning ranging from Indica to Nano to Bolt but its absence in the mid-sized hatchback segment was quite evident. With carmakers encashing the popularity of their mid-sized hatchback models, Tata too decided to come up with a fresh product that defied the dominance of well-received options in the segment and hence Tiago was born. What might work for Tiago is the aggressive price point ranging between Rs 3.20 lakh to Rs 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). To start with, it does not look anything like we have seen before from the home grown auto maker, the hatchback looks fresh in appeal and features elements that bring it on par with arch rivals. Thankfully, for Tiago, it isn’t worked around Indica, although it does share the base floor pan with the latter, otherwise it has been developed from scratch. Interior styling is refreshing; there ins comfortable space for occupants and the finish is excellent. Even the hardware powering the hatchback is all-new. Tiago range is available in two fuel options, mated to a manual transmission. An AMT variant will also be added to the line-up either early next year or by mid-2017. It will remain unchanged aesthetically and under the hood the AMT version will get the 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine making 83bhp and 114Nm. The AMT gearbox will be the same F-Tronic unit sourced from Magentic Marelli that is equipped in Nano and Zest. 

With so much things on offer, Tata has totally nailed the pricing and it needs a mention here as sometimes a good product falls prey to high pricing, but Tata Tiago price in India is tagged smartly, giivng it an edge over rivals.

First glance at the hatchback would compel you to give it another look and why not as designers at Tata have come up with a new design language ‘impact’. True to its name, this new theme works well for Tiago as it looks well-proportioned from outside, although Tata has retained some elements like the smiling grille in front which has been reworked to look better. The bonnet in front is wide and held strongly. The black honey-comb grille is outlined by chrome, a thin line although. Headlamps are large and pulled back. Lower side of the bumper gets round fog lamps and air-intakes. View from side is impressive too. The chic rear profile gets integrated spoiler atop, a short windscreen, wrap-around tail lamps and a large body painted bumper.

 Tata Tiago Braking and HandlingRide and handling is crisp, the car does well around corners and over potholes. Tyres play a vital role in balancing the car and suspension set up is quite stiff which absorbs most of the bumps. Braking force comes from disc brakes at front and drum units at rear axle.

Height adjuster for driver, adjustable front head rests, boot lamp, cooled glove-box and one-shot down on driver side window are available only on the range topping variant. Standard features across range include electric power steering with tilt adjustment, remote fuel and tailgate opening, integrated rear neck rest, 7 speed front wipers, 100% flip and fold rear seat, driver footrest etc. Features such as air conditioner with heater, front & rear power windows and power adjusting wing mirrors are absent in base variants.
