After a bumper month of huge discounts on new cars in August, car buyers are being told they can still secure tidy savings on some of the most popular mainstream models before September ends.
This includes deals on brand new 68 registration plate models like the Nissan Qashqai, Seat Leon and Skoda Kodiaq, all of which are being offered with more than £4,000 off.
That’s according to independent car buying website carwow, which has identified which models dealers are most willing to trim money off the retail price before the end of the month.
Savings: The Mercedes-Benz GLE is one of the most heavily discounted mainstream cars, with dealers trimming an average of £11k off the retail price
New emissions rules that came into place at the start of this month meant dealers and manufacturers have been stocking up and pre-registering new motors throughout the summer.
That led to registrations of new cars jumping by 23 per cent in August, compared to the same month last year.
Carwow – which claims to have 2.4million visitors every month – has listed its top September savings on models offered by dealerships around the country at the moment.
Included in the list of 20 models with the biggest discounts are some popular family favourites, including the Audi Q5, Honda CR-V and Skoda Octavia.
The most substantial of all savings is on the Audi R8 V10 Plus, which dealers are currently willing to trim £27,329 off the regular list price of £138,445. Though that’s probably not the affordable car most will be looking for.
More reasonable is the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV, which this month can be had with up to £11,362 shaved off the retail price, which starts from £61,905.
And it appears that it’s German manufacturers that are most desperate to shift models, with eight of the 10 most discounted cars being sold by Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
The BMW X5 almost makes an appearance as one of the cars dealers are discounting. Of the top 20 listed, 12 are German branded models
Alex Rose, trading director at carwow, says: ‘Manufacturers and dealers have been racing to get new cars registered.
‘All vehicles not compliant with new emissions testing standards needed to be registered before the start of this month.
‘So with so much stock now available, expect savings and incentives to continue for a good few weeks to come.’
Honda’s more affordable Honda CR-V is one of the best deals available. Dealers are knocking almost £10,000 off the price of one on average
