Yes, St. Barth has some superb hotels. But to truly appreciate the laid-back glamour and jet-set lifestyle of the Caribbean’s most luxurious island, it’s best to settle into a villa. These little private oases will do the trick just fine.

Like the nearby Le Sereno hotel, these three magnificent villas were designed by Parisian legend Christian Liaigre. Each one has more than 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space and a private pool, all with dramatic views of the beach and the at Grand Cul de Sac. The villas provide ample privacy, but their guests also have access to the swimming pool and gourmet restaurant, as well as hotel services like butlers and concierges.

The colorful, modern terrace that stretches the length of Villa Utopic and overlooks Gustavia Harbor is one of the prime selling points. In general, it’s an eye-catching luxury home for up to six guests built into the cliffs above Corossol. The designer didn’t play it safe. Instead, they filled the villa with lily pad ceiling lamps, midcentury furnishings, and Désiré Dolron art.

Location, location, location. Villa Avalon is noteworthy because it has a great one, within walking distance of St. Jean and Gouverneur Beach. The design in its four bedrooms and common areas is contemporary and cool—lots of white with gray stone accent walls. The wraparound terrace and infinity pool are particularly inviting in the evening, when they have sunset views.

With its setting right on the beach and its breezy layout for indoor-outdoor living, there is much to fall in love with here. The villa is spacious and gracious, with three bedrooms and tasteful decor. With its location on the somewhat wild Anse de Cayes, it’s both reasonably close to the shopping and dining of Gustavia and remote enough to feel blissfully secluded.

There’s a bit of a castaway feel at Villa Grande Saline, which is near the spectacular beach of the same name. There are several outdoor living areas, decorated with weathered woods and bright bougainvillea. Inside, there are four bedrooms with soothing colors and natural materials. A highlight is the long table on a terrace, which is right next to an outdoor wood-burning oven.
